The Global Initiative to Reoperate Dams is implementing a demonstration project in China in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources, its Institute for Water Resources and Hydropower Research, the Global Water Partnership-China, the Yangtze River Commission, the Yellow River Conservation Commission, the Pearl River Commission, the Three Gorges Power Company, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University, the Oriental Environmental Institute, the World Wildlife Fund, the International Food Policy Research Institute, several provincial water bureaus, and the World Bank. The project will investigate reoperation potential at six dam complexes, including the Three Gorges Project, the Xiaolangdi and Sanmenxia on the Yellow River, the Longtan on the Pearl River, and the Danjiangkou on the Han River (middle route of the massive south-to-north water diversion project). A full suite of reoperation techniques will be investigated in China.
