NHI represents Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District in several cases to restore and protect the salmon and steelhead fisheries in the Guadalupe River and Coyote and Stevens Creeks, which flow through Silicon Valley. One case sought redesign of the flood control projects which were being built or modified on the Guadalupe. Another case sought to amend the water rights of the Santa Clara Valley Water District to establish a minimum flow release schedule. Both cases, now settled, will result in substantial restoration of these urban fisheries. SCVWD is committed to an adaptive management program which requires, in perpetuity, that it achieve actual results (stated as measurable objectives) for such restoration. Another case asks the City of San Jose and SCVWD to assist in relocating homeless from the urban creek banks, for their own and public safety and welfare.
